For many years, dentures were considered the only solution for replacing multiple or all missing teeth. But thanks to modern technology and advances in the dental implant dentistry, you have the choice of having All-on-4™ or Teeth-in-a-Day® restorations. This surgical and prosthetic process gives you dental implants and replacement teeth all in the same day to restore your smile after tooth loss.
Ideal for those who have lost most or all of their teeth, those who need implants in one or both jaws, or for those whose removable dentures hurt, this treatment can give you the relief you are seeking. These implants are especially helpful if you currently use dentures that are slipping or you have low jaw bone density, giving you natural-looking, comfortable and fully functional teeth.
How Healthy Is Your Jawbone?
To be eligible for this restorative treatment, your general health needs to be good, and you need enough healthy jaw bone volume and density to support the implants and withstand the biting forces from chewing.
When receiving your dental implants with the Teeth-in-a-Day or All-on-4 implants, the implants are usually strong enough to anchor the new fixed teeth on the day of surgery.
With this treatment, we can replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth with prosthetic teeth in just one appointment with our surgeon. This is accomplished by using four to six dental implants instead of the traditional process of having one implant for each tooth being replaced. These implants anchor a bridge or overdenture spanning 12-14 teeth.
From Consultation to Preparation
A consultation will help us evaluate whether or not you are a viable candidate for a dental implant. Your medical and dental history will be taken into consideration, and your mouth thoroughly examined. A CBCT scan may be done to create a 3-D image of the jaw bone so we can see the soft tissues, nerve paths, blood vessels and bone structure to plan the implant placement.
When you are confirmed as a good candidate for these dental implants, our doctor will create a treatment plan for you. An impression of your mouth will be created showing the soft and hard tissues in the mouth so your new teeth can be created with accurate precision. We will prepare you for your procedure that will be scheduled, and your treatment will take place on an outpatient basis in our surgeon’s operating suite.
Dental Implant Procedure
We will use computer-guided implant surgery that doesn’t necessitate flap reflection, leaving you with less discomfort, swelling and bruising after the surgery. The implant surgery will be performed along with any tooth extractions necessary. Once our doctor has completed the bone shaping, the implants will be inserted and your teeth attached.
What to Expect After the Surgery
You will be given aftercare instructions to promote healing, including following a soft diet and a gentle oral hygiene routine initially. You will also have a follow-up appointment with our doctor to monitor your healing progress and make sure the implants are secure.
If you want to eat, smile and speak with confidence again, we look forward to talking to you more about our All-on-4 or Teeth-in-a-Day tooth replacement option, so give us a call today!
